Dara, Darah, & Amarah // of Blood, Virginity, & Fury is semi-devised piece by Asyraf Syahir Mohd Najib, featuring Nurul Sofia, Piravina Ragunathan, Celestine Waldo, Silam Sivakurunathan, & Daiaa Samsudin. The play can be described as an unconventional “coming-of-age” story of 5 adults finding comfort and friendship with each other in their early 30s as they revisit their dark sexual histories and explore their sexuality. It delves into the rarely spoken reality of how minors discover pornographic materials and sexual experiences at an early age; and how these experiences shape them in later adulthood. The play revolves around the story of Nora (played by Nurul Sofia) who suddenly returns home after years of living abroad, which sparked the reunion between her and her high school gang. The play will explore the themes of loss of innocence, early discoveries of sexually-explicit contents, reexamination of the concepts of purity and virginity, exploration of sexual identities and experiences (including queer experiences), and the yearn for self acceptance.
