“(This) Ain’t Your Polite Art Kinda Nite” is a multidisciplinary event that celebrate arts that are more “rebellious” and are more upfront with saying “F*ck You” to send a point across. The event intends to bring together artists from different art scenes – theatre, music, stand-up comedy, visual arts, poetry, and dance, and provide a safe space for artists to be more “dissenting” in their creative works. Artists are free to showcase works of any theme including taboo topics – but this does not include HATE SPEECH and discriminatory remarks of any kind.

The play revolves around the story of a religiously-skeptical Malay woman in her early 30s (Sofia, played by Myrra Baity Khan) who is pushed to reexamine their beliefs and confront their nihilistic views on life upon taking care of her religious cancer-stricken mother. The narrative of the play will be framed 3 years after her mother’s death; in which, she is finally forced to process her own experience upon having to witness (and be there for) her childhood friends (Ryan, played by LeoniTunez & Vanessa, played by Alya Amani) who are facing a similar experience with the sudden cancer diagnosis of their mother (Ma, played by Erie Woo). The play will dominantly explore the themes of death of a loved one, beliefs and faiths, questions of the afterlife, emotional numbness and self-destructive coping mechanisms.
